On Thursday the 24th of January 2019, the backup diesel generators located at Lonsdale and Elizabeth, owned by the South Australian Government, were called upon via the Reliability Emergency Reserve Trader (RERT) service to provide system security to both the South Australian and Victorian markets. This was due to record-breaking temperatures in South Australia as well as a generation shortfall in Victoria. CQ Energy played a vital role in managing the bidding and dispatch for the backup diesel generators. The backup diesel generators supplied the South Australian region between the late afternoon peak and supplied up to 216MW.
